Skip to main content Transcript:  Charlie: Merry Christmas, FoodTube! I’m Charlie from Jamie’s food team. Here are my top three thrifty decorating tips. Tip 1: Popcorn tinsel Popcorn tinsel: easy, fun and cheap! So, bowl, caster sugar, mixed spice and just mix it up! Popcorn, popped, and give that a good cover up. Also going to make my tinsel a little bit more colourful with some dried cranberries and now I’m going to thread it. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You can do any pattern you want. You can do long ones, you can do short ones. So there we go. Tip 2: Dried fruit My favourite decorating tip is dried fruit. Put your oven on. You could probably dry out most fruits using this method. If you don’t have a non-stick baking tray then use some baking parchment. Then place your fruit … just straight on. Just pop them in the oven for two to three hours, a hundred degrees centigrade, two hundred degrees Fahrenheit. Look how beautiful they are! Ribbon and just poke them through.

This is so easy, so easy and really, really nice. I’m just going to hang that on the tree. I think they look prettier than baubles. Or you could go to do garlands and rather than hanging them on the tree you could hang them around your fireplace, up your banisters, just around pictures or mirrors. Tip 3: Napkin rings Why not make your own napkin rings? I’m going to use just these little chillies, a couple of rosemary sprigs. Just get a little bit of thread and you are just tying them together. Find a lovely piece of ribbon. Just a couple of knots. So there we go, you just need to attach it to my napkin. Really colourful napkin holders. And speaking of pitched roofs, here’s how you can use string lights to turn the bedroom into a cozy nook. The colored lights match the colored pillows.if you don’t want the lights to be in your face and hanging above your head when you’re sleeping, you can hang them on the outside of a loft bed for example.Make something custom to personalize the walls of your bedroom. For example, make some wall art that lights up and you can also send a message.Similarly, you can attach string lights to a board and create custom messages, drawings, etc. Drill holes in the board to hide the ends of the string lights so only the desired design shows.Make a canopy for the bed that goes from above the headboard to the ceiling and forms a soft loop. Add fairy lights to your design and you’ll completely transform the room.A ladder can serve as a nightstand replacement in a bedroom or simply as an accent piece. You can decorate it with globe lights to make it stand out a little more.The string lights can be displayed in all sorts of shapes and patterns and if you hide behind a soft drapery they’ll get a glowy effect which will make them look particularly romantic.
