She writes about design and style on her blog boutique la bohème. She was among the top design bloggers who received mystery boxes of Christmas decorations from The Home Depot. We asked her to use the materials any way she wanted to decorate her mantel for the holidays. Angela created a festive, yet cozy space in her living room combining metallics with greenery, fresh flowers and fluffy rugs. It’s an inviting, warm space for entertaining guests or just enjoying a fire during the holiday season. buy wall decor stickersAnd it’s so simple and elegant! Best of all, she explains how she created the look so you can include some of her Christmas decorating ideas in your home. The holidays are my favorite time of the year. I love to decorate and entertain, so my apartment decor is very colorful and I was delighted to find Martha Stewart Living Merry Metallic Ornaments in my Home Depot boxes.
Who doesn’t love a little sparkle during the holidays? The touch of shimmer complements my interior perfectly. I first chose to balance my fireplace with 4-foot pre-lit potted trees on both sides. The pots were originally bronze, but needed to stand out more, so I used Rust-Oleum Gold Glitter spray paint to make them pop. The spray paint worked even better than I had imagined, giving the pots a gilded, antique look. I then added some miniature gold, bronze and copper ball ornaments to the trees to finish the look. Next, I completed a quick DIY project by creating a wreath to hang from the large mirror I have on my mantle. I wrapped garland around three quarters of a wire wreath frame. To tie the wreath in with the metallic theme, I decided to finish off the wreath with ball ornaments. I threaded 4-5 ornaments with floral wire and tied a knot making a ball cluster. I then attached each cluster (I made several) to the remaining length of the wreath frame. Next, I paired white hydrangeas in tall vases with this adorable silvered glass tealight candle set I purchased at The Home Depot.
I don’t think any holiday decor is complete without candlelight. Using shimmery ribbon, I hung five of the larger ball ornaments from the mantle. I used a hole puncher at the ends of each ribbon and simply attached the balls with a ornament hook. Being a graphic designer, I just had to include typography in my design. During a visit to my local Home Depot, I picked up a pre-finished chalkboard panel and asked a Home Depot associate to cut it to 24 inches by 36 inches. I then used the gold glitter spray paint on 2-inch wide boards for the frame. I also spray painted a wooden easel to match. I was so excited to happen upon laser cut paint stencils during my visit. I was pretty confident I could handle the writing freehand, but was a little nervous about replicating a floral pattern. This pretty Brocade and Berry Borders Stencil made adding a decorative motif super easy. Now the first thing my guests will see when entering is a welcoming ‘Season’s Greetings’ on a glittery, gold easel.
