Every year I’m amazed at how quickly the Christmas season comes and goes. One minute, I’m putting up the tree, and the next, I’m pulling down Christmas garland and putting it back in its box. In between going Christmas shopping, working and baking, I don’t have a lot of time to decorate my apartment for the holidays. After all, there is nothing more frustrating than hanging up a string of lights only to find that they don’t actually work. Is your apartment still Christmas decor-less? Decorating for the holidays can be super easy with these last-minute DIY Christmas decorations: Find your best platter or bowl, and fill it with your favorite Christmas ornaments of all different sizes and colors. I personally like to stick to a metallic color palette, so I opt for shiny gold and silver ornaments to give my table a bit of sparkle. This centerpiece couldn’t be easier to arrange, and it’s even simpler to put away once the holidays come to a close. Who said DIY Christmas decorations had to be difficult?

Groupings of candles make for a stunning arrangement on any dinner table. They give off a warm light that sets the tone for an intimate evening. If you don’t have votives to hold your candles, you can make your own using one tool: thumbtacks. Pick up a pack of silver or gold thumbtacks from your local craft store and push them into plain white candles until the tacks cover the entire surface of the candle. You’ll be left with awe-inspiring metallic votive candles. If you want your candles to be elevated, turn some wine glasses upside down and use them as a surface for your lights. Pinecones can be found (for free!) outside in many area, and they’re a festive way to decorate your apartment for the holidays. They make for beautiful Christmas tree ornaments, or you could cluster them in a bowl to add some festive flair to your coffee table. Gather a few from your neighborhood, and throw them in a 200 degree oven on a baking sheet for 45 minutes. This will ensure there are no bugs hiding in them.

Then, use some white paint to give the illusion of snow on your pinecones. As much as I wish I had the time (and energy) to head outside to build a snowman, I don’t. However, building a snowman in my own apartment, now that’s a different story. Turn your plain white fridge into a friendly snow creature with some paper, tape and scissors! Cut buttons, eyes and a nose out of black and orange construction paper, and tape the pieces onto your fridge to form a face and buttons. Adhere some holiday paper around the middle of your fridge to act as a scarf. Don’t have a big wreath to hang on your apartment door? You don’t need one. Instead, decorate your door with mini wreaths. All you need are a few shower curtain pulls, some yarn and glue. Simply wrap the yarn around the curtain pulls, adding a drop of glue to secure everything in its proper place. Feel free to incorporate other add-ons to your wreaths, like satin bows or silver bells. If you would still like a larger wreath, gather together 15 or so cookie cutters and glue the shapes together in the form of a circle.
