Christmas is definitely one of my most favorite times of the year. I look forward to the family time, baking, shopping, music, and of course decorating! I love natural, earthy elements, metallics, and a lot of texture. So, I was happy to see my mystery boxes contained a mix of metallic ornaments in a neutral palette with lots of different textures. These created the basis for my design. I started by creating a simple garland and coordinating wreath. The artificial pre-lit garland and Christmas wreaths were pretty basic, so I prettied them up a little bit with the metallic ornaments. I also added a few cinnamon pinecones to the wreath, and they make my whole living room smell divine! I’ve always loved the look of sunburst mirrors, so I purchased the Sole Mirror from Home Decorators Collection. It’s the perfect size for above our fireplace, and it makes a great backdrop for our wreath. These mercury glass lights were a pleasant surprise in my mystery box. When I first saw them I just knew they needed to be transformed into a marquee sign of some sort.

I started with a basic shadowbox frame from the craft store. It looks a little messy from behind, but don’t worry you won’t notice it from the front. For the lettering, I used my vinyl cutting machine to make a decal. You could definitely use a stencil or just freehand it too. pre decorated christmas treesIt looks so festive all lit up too!paint color for home exterior Wanting to add something bold and graphic to really make this vignette pop, I recovered this chair I found at an estate sale with some inexpensive black and white fabric. I also added a leopard pillow for some contrast. You can never go wrong with a little animal print in my book. After all, leopard is a neutral right? Then, I needed some sort of side table for my new chair. So, I scoured through my garage to see what I could find. I came across this stump that I picked up by the curb a while back and thought it would work perfectly.

I sprayed it with some chrome spray paint to make it stand out a little more and to add another metallic layer. It made such a difference and really brought out some of the pretty details in the wood. And most importantly, it’s the perfect spot for some milk and cookies! The lights on our old tree coincidently went out right as I was starting to decorate for this Style Challenge. It was kind of on its last leg anyway, so we were definitely due for an upgrade. I love the look of slim trees, so the pre-lit Christmas tree ended up being a perfect fit. For the base of the tree, I wanted something other than a traditional tree skirt. So, I checked out the garden department at Home Depot and found this fiberglass square planter. I set the stand for the tree directly into the planter and everything still feels really secure. Best of all, I don’t have to fuss with a tree skirt or worry about everything getting all bunched up! Candles are always a good thing to include for a serene holiday setting.

These flameless candles are so pretty and they actually look real! I love the subtle glow and the fact that they have a built in timer. This little owl was too cute not to include in my design. He’s perched right by my marquee sign and adds the perfect touch of whimsy. Wanting to add another layer of light, I removed the foam from the base of the owl and set a votive flameless candle inside. Thank you again to the Home Depot for making the holidays extra special at our house this year! We can’t to celebrate the season with this cutie!
