Our home is a work in progress but I love to celebrate little successes and this month, we’ve had a few. After neglecting the dining room for months, I finally added a few integral pieces. Step inside our Christmas dining room! If you recall, the dining room was originally brick red with a modern light fixture and carpet…it wasn’t horrible, just not our taste {it appears to be staged}. We moved in and of course, painted it “white”, repurposing the dining room table from our previous home. Then I had my mom’s/grandma’s dining room furniture delivered, because nothing is more beautiful to me than a family heirloom, even if it isn’t quite my taste. We had wood floors installed throughout our home, including the dining room. I’m still looking for a rug, but I’d rather find the right piece, than a piece right away. Recently, we added this brass light fixture. It has beautiful shades as well, but I love candlelight around Christmas. I had intended to use light blue accents for the room, but I came across a couple of my Grandma’s oil paintings and really wanted to include them – I decided I love them enough to let go of my original vision and let the design evolve naturally.

I reframed them {60’s frames were BAD} to fit the style of our home. Finally, I added an antique mirror above the buffet. I want to add seasonal flowers and limited decor so that I can use the buffet for it’s intended purpose – serving. While I rarely serve a meal buffet style, I’ll often use a buffet to host water pitchers, bottles of wine, and dessert. I used an abundance of eucalyptus with a few blooms {lily, roses and a mum} for an effortless and inexpensive Christmas flower arrangement. For Christmas I added fresh cedar to the chandelier and in the hutch. You’ll also find a few pears for a little added color.
