She is interested in getting direction in updating her kitchen.

As usual we will be working on a budget and I am confident we will be able to make this kitchen a beautiful, up-to-date space! Here is our plan of attack: 1. Paint walls–Paint the walls Benjamin Moore Classic Gray 2. Paint cabinets –Paint the cabinets Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace (a bright white) or Sherwin Williams Alabaster (more of a creamy white). I think we will be using the same method I used for my kids bathroom vanity to paint the kitchen. I’ve always wanted to try it out on kitchen cabinets because I’ve loved the result in the kids bathroom–it’s so durable and has a lovely smooth finish. You can find the tutorial, Here Sherwin Williams Alabaster We plan to paint the soffit area above the cabinets the same color as the cabinets and add trim to it to create… Three years ago today I published my first blog post (you can check it out HERE if you are interested).;-) I had no idea what I was doing, just that I wanted to share something that was bringing me a lot of joy in my life…something that I call the 3 D’s…

Decorating, DIY, and Design. I am a visual person and I am very influenced by my surroundings. If my home is dark, drab, and cluttered then I feel heavy and weighed down emotionally. On the other hand if my home is light and airy and uncluttered I feel uplifted and buoyed up. No matter how petty this trait seems there’s no denying that it is a part of me (anybody else wired this way??). Being a full-time “stay-at-home” mom (and a home body at heart) it is even more important to me that my home is a place that is visually beautiful and encouraging because I am in it a lot!:-) When I first realized this about myself years ago I didn’t have much money… When It comes to learning how to use new tools it may seems like I am pretty fearless. However, that’s not the case. If it wasn’t for my determination in finding ways to save money in my quest to create a beautiful home then I would have never picked up a power tool. Power tools are a means to an end for me. If creating a beautiful home on a budget is something you want to accomplish learning to use power tools will be a great asset to you too!

Truth is everytime I’ve faced my fears and learned how to use a new tool I have felt empowered. It’s a pretty awesome feeling to do something you never thought you would or could do! I think that’s why DIY can be addicting. It feels so good when it’s all done to be able to say I made this! I created this for our family and home and saved lots of money in the process (but let’s be honest in the middle of the project…I hope you’ve had a great week! School started back for the kids this week so we spent our days getting adjusted back to our normal routine. Today I’m sharing the 5 Decorating Ideas/Inspiration that stood out to me most this week! I hope you enjoy!! My Friday Five 1. I love the makeover Studio Mcgee posted this week on their blog. They re-did their client’s dining room and living room and it is just gorgeous! To see and read about the makeover click HERE. If you like my Design 101 posts you will enjoy THIS POST from Ballard Designs blog, How to Decorate.

They did such a great job explaining how to style a console table and coffee table. I love how they talked about making sure to vary circle and squared decor pieces. via Ballard Designs 3. I found this cute plaid tray clearanced at Meijers (a local grocery store chain) for only $7. I have it on my kitchen counter right now. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!! My siblings and their families were all able to come in town for Christmas which made it all the more special!! Lots of cousin sleepovers and family fun! And now that everyone has gone and and the New Year is upon us I find myself looking back at my 2016 home goals to see what I was able to accomplish and what goals I want to make for 2017! My Home Goals for 2016 Were: Foyer– -Add woodwork -Paint two story foyer (it was beige with an orange undertone) I’m happy to say I was able to accomplish this goal (it had been on 2015’s list too)! HERE is the post that explains the process that got me to this point and for fun here is the “before” of how the space began.

Laundry Room – -Paint walls -New Light Fixture -Flooring? At the beginning of 2016 I knew the laundry room was undeniably our most neglected room…The Pantone color of the Year for 2017 was recently announced. For those who are unfamiliar with Pantone it is a global organization that provides a collection of colors that can be used consistently throughout the world. Each year Pantone makes a prediction of what color will trend or take precedence in fashion and design that year. Greenery was chosen as Pantone’s 2017 color of the year. I was a little surprised by the choice (not that I’m saying that it was a bad choice). One reason being that just last month Benjamin Moore announced their 2017 prediction to be Shadow. Shadow and Greenery seem like practical opposites–one being moody and mysterious and the other hopeful and energetic (although they do balance each other out well). The other reason I was surprised is that Greenery seems like a very classic, timeless color.

In the past Pantone has chosen colors that are perhaps less commonly used and that may be trendy for a few years or a decade and then…I hope you’ve had a great week! I can’t believe Christmas is only a little over 2 weeks away! I still have a bit of Christmas shopping to do. I’ve been doing most of my shopping on Amazon this year which has been wonderful not having to go out in the cold and crowds! Today I’m going to share with you my latest little project. A few years ago I taught (HERE) how easy it is to install a tile backsplash. I demonstrated the process as I put up a mosaic tile accent around my powder bathroom. I’ve enjoyed the look but if you’ve been reading for awhile you know how much I love clean, white, fresh spaces. Lately I’ve felt like all the earthy colors in the bathroom combined with not great lighting has made the bathroom feel dingy. I decided to freshen it up by painting the tile accent white. Here are the results! Did you know you can paint tile??

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! Have you started decorating for Christmas?? This year I’m taking it slower than past years and have only put the Christmas wreath out on the front door so far. One thing I know for sure though is that I’ll be incorporating plaid into my Christmas decorating again this year! I like plaid all year round but around Christmas time I love it! via Ballard Designs I first remember falling in love with “Christmas” plaid when I was around 13 years old. My mom made me this adorable plaid skirt for Christmas and of course I had to have her make me a matching bow in the same plaid material as the skirt (somebody please get this girl some sunless tan lotion)! 🙂 (Me with my Dad) Then in high school around Christmas time all I wanted to wear were plaid flannel shirts. To me plaid at Christmas time means cozy, classic, fresh and stylish. Now instead of dressing myself in plaid (although I do… hope you’ve had a great week!! I’m excited to share a budget bedroom makeover today, one I helped design for my friend’s 14 year old daughter, Zoe. Z
